Privacy
The short version
Hindsight has no accounts. Your clips are files on your Mac and they stay there, and the app never uploads them. This website is a separate thing from the app, and it does use analytics cookies if you agree to them.
Hindsight is made by Eunoia Software LLC, which is the data controller for the little that is described below, and which you can reach at help@hindsightclips.com.
The app
Hindsight captures a window or a display into a buffer in your Mac's memory and writes a video file when you ask it to. The buffer is never uploaded and never written anywhere except the clips folder you chose. There is no sign in, no sync and no account to delete.
The app connects to the internet in two situations, both of them in the version you download directly from this site:
- Activating and checking your licence key with Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. This sends the key and an identifier for the Mac it is activated on.
- Checking whether a newer version exists. This is an ordinary request for a file and carries no information about you.
The Mac App Store version does neither. Apple handles the purchase, and the App Store handles updates.
This website
This site uses Google Analytics 4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are worth keeping. Google Analytics is the only thing here that sets cookies.
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you agree to Google Analytics. Nothing changes about the site depending on what you answer, and you can say no.
- If you decline, or if you are in the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland and have not yet answered, Google's tag runs in a restricted mode: no analytics or advertising cookies are written, and no identifier for you is stored. Google receives an anonymous, cookieless signal that a page was viewed, which it uses to estimate totals. It cannot be tied back to you.
- If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies to recognise a returning browser, and collects the pages you view, roughly where you are (from your IP address, which is truncated before storage), your browser and device type, and the site that referred you.
We never give Google your name or email address, because we do not have them. We do not run ads, we do not use Google Signals or remarketing, and we do not sell or share data with anyone for advertising.
Google Ireland Limited acts as our processor for this and may transfer data to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Their own explanation of what they collect is in how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
Ahrefs Web Analytics runs without cookies or persistent identifiers. It records the page URL, referrer, browser and device information, language, and approximate city-level location. Ahrefs discards raw IP addresses after using them to derive location and a daily visitor count; the daily identifier cannot follow a browser across days or websites. Changing your mind. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the stored choice, and the banner asks again on your next visit. Browser-level "do not track" or global privacy signals are respected where your browser sends them.
How long. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically.
There is no mailing list and no sign-up form on this site, so there is no address of yours for us to hold.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the EEA you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. In practice the answer to the first question is usually "nothing that identifies you", because the app has no accounts and the site's analytics are not linked to a person. Write to help@hindsightclips.com and a person answers.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we never have.
Buying
Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record for direct purchases. They take the payment, handle VAT and send your licence key, and their privacy policy covers what they hold. Card details never reach us. If you buy through the Mac App Store, Apple is the merchant and the same applies.
Children
Hindsight is not aimed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it, and the change is noted in the app's release notes.
Asking us something
Write to help@hindsightclips.com and a person answers. That includes asking for your email address to be removed from the list, which you can also do yourself from any message.
