Hindsight vs. Medal

This one is short, because the answer is not really a comparison. Medal is excellent and it does not run on your Mac. Their own support documentation is unambiguous about it, and has been for years.

TL;DR

Medal is the biggest name in game clipping and, on Windows, it is very hard to beat: free, auto-clipping across hundreds of games, an editor, cloud hosting, instant share links that embed in Discord, and mobile apps. Hindsight does none of that. If you have a Windows PC, use Medal.

On a Mac you cannot. Medal's support site states that "Medal is not currently supported on macOS. This includes all versions of macOS, and there are no desktop or mobile apps available for Apple laptops or desktops." Mac users are directed to the web version, which their documentation describes as limited to your general feed and published clips — you cannot record with it, cannot edit with it, and cannot see unlisted or cloud-synced clips.

So the real question is not "Medal or Hindsight" but "what is the Medal-shaped hole on macOS filled with". Hindsight fills the part that matters most: the instant replay buffer and the hotkey that saves the last few minutes after they have already happened. It does not try to be Medal's social network, and it has no cloud tier at all.

When to use Medal

Use Medal if you play on Windows, or if you also play on Windows and want one library across both. It is free, its auto-clipping detects kills and wins in hundreds of games without you pressing anything, and its share links are genuinely the fastest way to get a clip in front of friends. Hindsight has no auto-detection, no hosting and no social feed, and is not trying to acquire them. On a Mac, Medal's web version remains useful for watching and browsing clips that were captured elsewhere.

When to use Hindsight

Use Hindsight if you play on a Mac and want the last few minutes of a game saved after the fact, without arming anything, without an account, and without the clip leaving your machine. It captures one window, so notifications and your second monitor are never in the file, and a window capture can take that game's audio without your Discord call.
